Hirefox privacy policy
Last updated: 1 October 2026
Hirefox is a browser extension that shows what a job posting says about visa sponsorship, with the exact sentence as evidence. This policy explains what Hirefox does with information.
The short version: Hirefox reads the job posting you are looking at and shows you what it says. It does not collect, copy or send your data anywhere. There are no accounts, no servers, no analytics and no tracking.
What Hirefox reads
- Job and career pages only. Hirefox reads a job posting when you press Analyze in the tab you are on (on any career site, for example Amazon Jobs), or automatically on the job sites you switch on: LinkedIn, Greenhouse, Lever, Workday, Ashby and SmartRecruiters.
- On LinkedIn it reads only the job posting on screen (its “About the job” section). It never reads your messages, profile, feed or company pages, not even when you press Analyze.
- “All career pages” is an optional switch, off until you turn it on (Chrome then asks your permission). With it on, Hirefox looks at each page’s address, on your device, to decide whether it is a career or job page; it reads a page only when it is, and only if the page is a single job posting. Addresses of other pages are not kept. It never reads email, banking, payment or health sites.
- Without that switch, Hirefox has no access to any other website unless you press Analyze there.
- One switch in the Hirefox popup (“Read job pages automatically”) pauses all automatic reading.
What Hirefox does with it
- The posting is analysed on your device by Hirefox’s built-in rules. If a sentence is worded in an unusual way and your computer supports it, that sentence may be given to Chrome’s built-in AI model (Gemini Nano), which also runs on your device. Nothing is sent over the internet to answer it.
- Company H-1B history (US jobs only). For a job in the United States, Hirefox can show how many H-1B labor applications the U.S. Department of Labor certified for that employer in recent years, as a short summary and a small chart. This is publicly available government data, published by the Department on its Performance Data page, and packaged inside Hirefox; the company name is looked up on your device and is never sent anywhere. Hirefox shows the data as the Department publishes it (which may contain errors) and is not affiliated with the Department. You can turn this off in Hirefox’s settings.
- Hirefox makes no network requests: no servers, no analytics, no tracking, no advertising, no remote code and no remote configuration.
What Hirefox stores, on your device only
- A short note for each job it checks, so opening the same job again is instant: the job’s title, company, location and page address, the relevant sentences from the posting (never the full page), and the result. Each note is deleted 12 hours after the job was checked (you can choose 1 or 6 hours instead), at most 200 are kept, and you can delete them at any time in Hirefox’s settings. Notes are stored in your browser profile like other site data; Hirefox does not encrypt them separately.
- Your settings: which sites are switched on, whether automatic reading is on, where the fox sits on the page, whether the H-1B history is shown, and your smarter-reading preference.
- Stored data never leaves your browser and is not synced between devices. Uninstalling Hirefox removes all of it.
What Hirefox never does
- It does not collect, sell, share or transfer your data to anyone, including us.
- It does not ask for or know your name, email or any account.
- It does not use your data for advertising, credit or lending decisions, or any purpose other than showing you what a job posting says.
- It does not run in incognito windows.
- It is not directed at children under 13, and it collects no information from anyone, including children.
Links you can click
The “Made with ♥ by Sujith”, “Send feedback” and “Privacy” links open a web page (a LinkedIn profile, a Google Form, this policy) in a new tab, only when you click them. Anything you write in the feedback form is handled by Google Forms under Google’s privacy policy, and only what you choose to type is shared. Hirefox itself sends nothing.
Usage numbers
Like every extension on the Chrome Web Store, the publisher sees anonymous totals that Google provides (for example, the number of installs and weekly users per country). These come from Chrome’s own update checks, not from Hirefox, and never include who you are.
Permissions
- storage keeps your settings and the short-lived notes on your device.
- activeTab and scripting read the job posting in the tab when you press Analyze.
- Optional site access, asked for only when you switch a site on, lets Hirefox read job pages on that site automatically. You can turn each one off in the popup at any time.
Changes to this policy
If Hirefox’s handling of data ever changes, this page will be updated before the change ships, with a new date at the top.
